Nappy cakes can make a wonderful present for a new mum to be. In recent years they have grown in popularity and are one of the top gifts to give at a baby shower. They are bundles of essential baby items packaged up like a tiered cake. You could buy one, or make one yourself. Some people have even set up businesses selling these handmade items.
The diaper cakes structure is made up of nappies. You should choose newborn sizes for practicality. You will need to tightly roll them and bind them together to form the outside of a circle. Different size circles will need to be made and you will need to decide how many tiers you wish to put together.
The tier circles can then be filled with the other items you would like to include. It is common to include some newborn size vests. You can choose a gender appropriate color or you could get vests with pictures or slogans. These can be rolled tightly and used as a base layer inside the tiers.
The same effect can also be achieved with other items of clothing. Bibs, socks, hats and muslin cloths are very useful. It is also a nice idea to fill a tier of your present with babies first shoes.
It is also nice to top the vest layers with baby toiletries. Small bottles of baby bath liquid and nappy cream are useful as well as cotton wool or wipes. You can complete the bathing items with some rubber ducks that can be played with when the baby is a little older.
Decorate your nappy cakes with coordinating ribbons and materials. You can also use these as a way of reinforcing the structure. It can be a nice idea to top the tiers off with a teddy bear for the child when it is a bit older.
